LAMARCA kick-off meeting was held on December 14-15, 2022, at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems IFISC, Mallorca, Spain. The meeting was structured as a 2-days event. All partners participated in this first official meeting and the team got to know each other.  During the event, the coordinator Alejandro Orfila gave an overview over the whole project structure, followed by presentations by LAMARCA partners.

For the whole duration of the meeting, open discussions and interactions opportunities among participants were strongly strengthened, fostering successful and proactive collaboration within the consortium. Partners also discussed several technical and methodological aspects of the upcoming tasks and decided about the next steps of the project.

LAMARCA (LAgrangian transport of MARine litter and microplastics from modeling, analysis, and observations in CoAstal waters) aims to further understand the role of oceanic transport in marine litter dispersion and accumulation areas in the sea surface, along the water column and over the seafloor.

The project is led by IMEDEA, developed with IFISC and AZTI and involves a multidisciplinary team of physical oceanographers and experts in marine litter. LAMARCA is funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Regional Development Fund “ERDF A way of making Europe”.
