Our Participation in the EuroMech 2024 and XVII Jornadas de Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos

EuroMech_lamarca

We are happy to share that our team recently participated in two notable events this month: the EuroMech Colloquium 639 in Lerici, Italy, from May 6 to May 8, and the XVII Jornadas de Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos in Ibiza, Spain, from May 8 to May 9. EuroMech brought together scientists and researchers around Europe to discuss the latest advancements related to fluid mechanics, considering the numerical, experimental, and theoretical aspects of fluid dynamics. At Colloquium 639, the spotlight was on Microplastic dispersion pathways. Our team contributed by presenting our latest study, which delved into the motion of fluid particles within the vertical column. This research aimed to enhance our understanding of the 3D perspective of marine litter pathways.

The XVII Jornadas de Ingeniería de Costas y Puertos tpically covered various aspects of coastal and port engineering, including topics such as coastal erosion, harbor design, environmental management, and sustainable development. The attendees at the congress included professionals and experts at national scale in coastal and port engineering.  Within the session “Gestión Ambiental. Modelado” our team presented the results of work done within the framework of the plastic pellet spill incident from the cargo ship Toconao off the coast of Galicia in December 2023. This incident has led to further exploration of microplastic transport dynamics in the Bay of Biscay through the operational implementation of tailored Lagrangian simulations and a drift buoy campaign to track the spill along the Bay of Biscay coastline.

We were thrilled to share our findings with the scientific community and to engage in discussions with other experts in the field!
