On November 4th, Sloane Bertin defended her doctoral thesis at the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale in Wimereux, France. The thesis, titled “Amélioration de la prévisibilité de la dispersion du matériel en dérive en zone côtière par fusion d’informations numériques et observationnelles,” was supervised by Alexei Sentchev and Anna Rubio. This work focused on the study of dispersion and the identification of coastal convergence structures in the eastern English Channel and the southeastern Bay of Biscay, and was carried out with the support of the LAMARCA project.
The committee, composed of François Schmitt (Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale), Anne Molcard (Université de Toulon), Francesco D’Ovidio (Sorbonne Université), Stefano Berti (Université de Lille) and Christophe Maes (Laboratoire d’Océanographie Physique et Spatiale), highlighted the quality of the written and oral presentation, the relevance of the results obtained, and the knowledge acquired by Sloane. The thesis received the unanimous grade of Outstanding.
